Download a video from VK
Paste the address of a public VK video or clip. It works with both vk.com and the newer vkvideo.ru — they are the same video, and you do not need to convert one to the other.
The link shape is rarely the problem with VK. What stops a download is usually the video itself: restricted to a community, or region-locked outside Russia. The sections below tell the two apart, because the fix is different for each.

VK videos fail for reasons that have nothing to do with the link. Three cases cover almost everything.
A public video
It opens in a browser without logging in and plays for anyone. Paste the link above and you are done — this is the common case, and VK is reliable here.
Restricted by a community or its owner
VK says access was restricted by the community's managers or by the video's creator. That needs a logged-in account, and for a community, membership. No outside tool can reach it.
Region-locked outside Russia
Licensed music, sport and TV are frequently blocked for viewers outside Russia — VK shows “unavailable in your country”. This is a per-video copyright block, not a broken link, and nothing here can lift it.
Which VK link do you have?
VK owner ids carry meaning: the number after the word video is the owner, and a leading minus marks a community rather than a person. None of that changes whether it downloads — but it explains the shapes you will see.

vk.com and vkvideo.ru are the same video
In December 2024 VK gave video its own domain, vkvideo.ru, and started redirecting vk.com/video links to it. Both still resolve, and both work here without any conversion — if you have a vk.com/video link, you do not need to turn it into a vkvideo.ru one first. Paste whichever you copied.
The only thing that carries the video's identity is the owner_id number. The domain in front of it is cosmetic.
Why a VK download usually fails
When a VK link does not work, it is almost never the link shape — VK link shapes are handled well. It is nearly always one of these three, and only the last is something you change.

What quality and format you get
VK stores several resolutions of most videos, and the best one available is used unless you choose a smaller size before starting. Files come out as MP4.
As everywhere, a downloader cannot hand you a resolution that was never uploaded. If a video was posted at 480p, 480p is the ceiling — no site can invent detail that is not in the source.
A long or high-resolution VK video is a large file and takes a few minutes to prepare. Keep the tab open until your browser starts saving it.
When VK can do it for you
VK's own “Add to my videos” saves a reference inside your account — it does not put a file on your device, so it is not a download in the sense meant here. For that you need either this page or one of the cases below.
- If the video is yours, VK Studio gives you the original file from the video's management page.
- The VK mobile app can cache some videos for offline viewing inside the app, but that copy stays locked to the app and is not a file you can move.

What you may keep
Download VK videos you made, own, or have the right to keep. VK's terms and the rights of whoever posted the video still apply, and a copyright region-lock is there for a reason even when it is inconvenient. What you do with a file is your responsibility.
Questions people actually ask
- Does a vkvideo.ru link work, or only vk.com?
- Both. VK moved video to vkvideo.ru in late 2024 and redirects vk.com/video links to it, but the old vk.com/video links still resolve too. Paste whichever you have — they are the same video and neither needs converting.
- What does the minus in video-123456_789 mean?
- It marks the owner as a community, group or public page rather than a person. A positive owner number is an individual user's video. It makes no difference to whether the video downloads — it just tells you who posted it.
- Can I download a VK Clip?
- Yes. A Clip is VK's short vertical video and its link uses the clip path (vk.com/clip…) instead of video, but it is fully supported. Paste it the same way.
- Can I download a private or community-only video?
- No. If VK says access is restricted by the community's managers or by the creator, the video is not public. It needs a logged-in account with access — and for a community, membership — which an outside tool does not have. Save it from inside VK instead.
- The video plays but there is no sound — can I get the audio?
- Usually not. VK sometimes blocks only the audio track of a video for copyright reasons while leaving the picture. When that happens the muted version is the only one VK serves, so it is the only one available to download.
- Can I download a whole VK playlist at once?
- No — one video at a time. A playlist or album link points at a collection, not a single file. Open the video you want from the list and copy that link.
- I have an embed link (video_ext.php). Does that work?
- It can, as long as it still includes the hash value at the end — an embed link is tied to that token. If you have the choice, the plain vk.com/video… or vkvideo.ru/video… link is more reliable.
- Does VK tell the owner that I downloaded their video?
- No. The download happens between this service and VK's video servers; the person who posted the video is not notified and cannot see it.
